It's like there's a whole other side to directing you just don't hear about that's inherently psychopathic. I remember an equally revealing interview with Bryan Singer on a BBC show about the Hollywood machine a number of years back where he went into terrifying detail about the levels of stress he went through while directing the first X Men film (which was his first big budget movie). Terry Gilliam famously lost the use of his legs due to stress whilst battling to get Brazil finished. You've almost got to possess a maniacal personality to thrive I think.

This is a normal post ARGH!
I get unreasonably annoyed by parents who think that culture is genetic, and that kids adopted from another ethnic group should be introduced to "their" culture.

It's not their culture. An 8-month-old doesn't have a culture. Quite what an "ethnic culture" is supposed to be, I don't know. But going to great lengths to introduce a child to "his" culture, when that culture is different from the one of his parents, is more or less to tell him that he just doesn't quite fit in the family.

This is a normal post What about the example in Alien?
John Hurt gave birth to a baby that didn't look in any way like him. He was raised purely in the culture of his father and did not know anything of the culture or traditions of his other parent. Despite this childhood the child showed no characteristics of his father's culture and seemed to somehow know them because they were in his blood. This to me proves that culture can be genetic.

This is a normal post *sniffs*
The Alien or "Xenomorph X121" takes on certain physical characteristics from it's "mother" via horizontal gene transfer.

In Alien John Hurts spawn was bipedal with 2 arms and 2 legs and in Aliens the numerous xenomorphs that were bred from the colonists / terraformars of the planet LB426 were similar in appearance.

However in Alien 3 the first alien to appear is bred inside a canine (or a bovine depending on which cut you watch) and here the xenomorph is clearly a quadruped having inherited those characteristics from it's host.

When the host is a Yautja (The alien antagonist from the movies Predator and Predator 2) it will inherit mandibles and a yellow / green skin.

So your assertion that the xenomorph inherits none of the characteristics of the host mother is basically flawed science.

*sniffs*
(, Thu 30 Oct 2014, 14:41, , Reply)
This is a normal post I concede to your very well argued point about inheriting physical characteristics from both parents
however my point was more based on cultural characteristics, possibly better put as stereotypes. I maintain that baby alien took the characteristics of the alien rather than John Hurt. Without wanting to offend any aliens by stereotyping, the alien cultural characteristics are mainly punching people in the face with a giant set of teeth, being able to climb walls and being constantly covered in slime. John Hurt is an englishman so his characteristics are enjoying cricket, warm ales, pork pies and morris dancing. In the film I saw virtually nothing of the latter set and all of the former.
(, Thu 30 Oct 2014, 15:01, , Reply)
This is a normal post You're correct.
Whilst there may be some behaviour traits carried over these are only really prevalent when there has been some extreme genetic transgenesis as seen in Alien Resurrection.

Your naturally spawned xenomorph maintains behaviors in keeping with it's kin and inherits practically nothing if anything from the mother.

I concede the point sir, well played.
