It's a little hard to relate to in that sense. Though I'm sure a lot of the blame shouldn't go to the victims of the social problem.

You're an adult, not a child, and intelligent. If tons of others are feeling so ashamed as to eat in toilets or buy friends, you have to help.

And, it is hippy thinking because if we all followed our dreams then the world wouldn't function. Where would be the farmers, street cleaners, miners? Noone wants to clean public toilets, but it has to be done.

This is the sermon of the bastards... all those guys who have life just the way they like it on the back of others.
Sod that. One day I will be standing before my creator, and he's going to ask "So what did you do with the skills and passions and the span of years I gave you?"
If my answer is "paid the mortgage and kept my head down because I was afraid of war and famine, taxes and poverty" I'm going to look a bit of a plum aren't I?

if you want to see what happens when people take advice like this, the main board is that way----,
( , Wed 9 Jan 2013, 14:51, Share, Reply)
drivel. far too many people are wrongly encouraged to pursue their creative dreams professionally when they haven't the talent an should stick to it as a hobby.
And far from being Utopian, this advice is downright Thatcherite. His advice should be* 'do something useful and contribute. Look after old people, learn a trade, become a teacher, volunteer.
Finally, I'd have (slightly) more respect for this nonsense if the guy delivering it didn't sound like he's gone from being an Oxbridge student to being an Oxbridge don with nothing inbetween.
*not to me, obviously. I'm far too important.

Essentially Thatcher preached a creed of selfishness ('there is no such thing as society') an this advice is in line with that, in my opinion.
( , Wed 9 Jan 2013, 15:13, Share, Reply)
Usually this is
presented more in a line of "there is no such thing as society, because there are individual persons, families, all with different needs and problems, and as they are not hypothetical uniform entity, government can not nor should try to cater to all of their needs (as it will indirectly hurt some of them, yes taking money in form of taxes from their house budget and totally blowing it hurts, it's not rocket science)."
But it could be all in my head.

Yeah, a lot of those bands have released better things that i've liked in that time.
Still, looking through there are some great tracks in there, maybe not groundbreaking (if that's what you mean) but just lovely tracks.

Yeah, it's all good really.
As a list of artists to hear on a radio station is all pretty damn good. With the exception perhaps of Coldplay and La roux.
EDIT - No, I meant ball breaking. As in something that grabs you by the balls and squeezes 'em real tight. Like Teen Spirit. But, not that obviously. But something like that. Maybe I'm just getting old. I'm pining for the 90s.

Can't remember the last time i heard something that really grabbed me on the radio to be honest.
There are some toe-tappers in there though, matter of opinion/taste i guess, as you say, the artists on there are good enough promotion for Radio 6 as a station.
I listen to a local station here, it's fucking brilliant, played loads of local bands that have gone on to be pretty big, they never say who they're playing or have just played though, it's really fucking frustrating!!!

Hardly anything, hardly hear any of them, easiest job ever.
The only one you hear anything from is some guy who can't get a child minder so brings his kid along, he only says anything as you sense his kid's getting bored and he has to keep him amused, occasionally you'll hear a mic come on half way through a track and the little kid saying random stuff until his dad realises and turns the mic off quickly.

Presumably: increasingly Hotter Stuff will first shine Infra-red light, then visible light, then UV light, and so on up the electromagnetic spectrum.

woo Leidenfrost effect!
I learned about this just before xmas at a warwick uni xmas physics lecture thingy. The Leidenfrost Effect means you can quickly dip you hand int a vat of liquid nitrogen without it freezing. basically the massive difference in temperature means there is an insulating layer of gas between the hot object and the cold object (which is easily visible in he video above), first time i'e actualy seen it visibly though.

small and large that were using this loophole to retain a profit while undercutting the highstreet. The result is that most small retailers on the highstreet are now out of business and all we are going to be left with is Amazon, Ebay and Supermarkets. Used them for a lot of stuff, but they mucked up a couple of highly-anticipated preorders, so I went elsewhere.
Not really a loss, I don't think they've been consistently cheaper than anywhere else, plus their returns were quite expensive because you had to ship it overseas for a refund.
