Threadjack: Does anyone have a tinfoil hat I can borrow? I just discovered something a little shocking, and I'm not easily shocked.

Google for "Iceland". Flip over to google's "news". Some things on supermarkets, nasty Iceland banks putting up interest rates AGAIN etc.

Now change your search to "Iceland overthrow government". You'll see there is no applicable news for this. About 5 links of rubbish. No coverage. Nothing. Flip over to "web", and you'll see there are plenty of websites covering this.

But then something further...the "news" link/filter has now disappeared. Search for anything else, it comes back.

This is a normal post Well, having never been to Iceland, I can't really comment...
I can only go on what I read on the internet, hence I'm self-consciously wearing a pointy, shiny hat this morning and sitting in the corner while I type.. but I read things like this - cac.ophony.org/2012/04/16/the-icelandic-revolution-why-didnt-i-hear-about-it/ - and wonder.
(, Fri 30 Nov 2012, 10:01, , Reply)
This is a normal post That's not a revolution
Firstly, this was in 2008, why are people only interested in it now?

Removing one political party and installing another within the same government framework isn't a revolution. We've had governments collapse in the past and that wasn't considered a revolution. Why in this case?

Nationalising the banks. Wow. That's unheard of. Except that we did it with Northern Rock, Lloyds, RBS, HBOS and I'm sure there were others.

Its viewing things through a particularly skewed filter to say there was a revolution over there. I was also there in 2008 and 2009 and at no point did anyone call it a revolution. You therefore have to ask what particular axe are the people writing that article grinding, and it looks like the same tired old anti-establishment tinfoil crap to me.
(, Fri 30 Nov 2012, 10:23, , Reply)
This is a normal post I wasn't aware we nationalised our banks
I thought we kept them private and threw money at them and shuffled their boards around a little bit until they said "sorry, we promise to not fuck up again, here, let us help you write the govt policies that will definitely stop us fucking up again". Interested now? I only found out about it now. That was my concern.
(, Fri 30 Nov 2012, 10:32, , Reply)
This is a normal post Also, I'd suggest that people are getting more interested now
because they are now noticing that Iceland's economy is doing rather well and wondering what they've done differently.

do a wikipedia search for Palestine's modern history, and since the nineteenth century gangs of arabs and jews have been killing each other with alarming frequency. It's absolutely pathetic. Now one player has got the big hand with European sympathy for what happened to the jews, and US military aid on account of a huge Jewish minority seemingly immune to the palm worthy malfunctions of the jewish state, and the Arabs draw out the repressed victim as much as they can, when they aren't blasting rockets into Israel randomly, blowing up planes, murdering athletes. Fucking get a grip guys, there is no clear devil or saint in all this, it's been going on for far to long.

It's only when Jew and Arab genuinely want some peace, that it might actually be achievable. To me they simply seem to hate one another, just like the last six generations; seems a pointless 'conflict' to get worked up about.

And if that will happen they will first bomb Saudi Arabia to block fuel to the west, they will be semi-covered by Russia and that will spike tension up. Especially now our economy is balls.

a couple of years back i was due to go to Amsterdam for a stag weekend. The week before i was having a beer with a housemate with, let's say, provincial views on other races. Deciding to wind him up a bit, the following conversation happened:

Me: So, I think I'll try to have sex with prostitutes from as many races as possible.
Him: Not a black one though?
Me: Yeah, of course a black one. And a Japanese one too, hopefully.
Him: Mate, stop it! That's sick!
Me: No it's not. Hopefully, I'll find a dwarf one too.
Him: Aw mate, stop it.
Me: No, it'll be great. I can just lie back and spin her round.
Him: Mate, stop it!
Me: Come on! It'll be ace. I could probably screw her while wlaking round the room.
Him: Stop it!
Me: Might even be able to smuggle her home in hand luggage.
Him: For fuck's sake, will you fucking stop it? My sister's a 'dwarf' as you put it.

STONY SILENCE

ME: is she single?

We're not mates any more.
